Watching some German movies while in Germany

It has been a pretty slow week for me as we are awaiting to hear approval on a new campaign I have been working on. So I decided that even when you are in a city as robust as Berlin it might be a nice idea to just stay inside for a day, pour myself a couple steins of great German beer, pop some popcorn and watch some good German movies. I rented three movies from the local video store (they still have those here!) and the bungalow actually came with a cache of movies that must have been left here by the former tenant.

The first movie I rented is a classic from my childhood The NeverEnding Story. I didn’t know that this movie was actually filmed in Germany and I know that it is not actually in German but I saw it in the store and figured what the heck I might as well take a trip down nostalgia road. If you haven’t seen The NeverEnding Story rent it and watch it with your kids. It’s basically the story of a little boy named Bastian who has to save the fantasy world of Fantasia from the evil “nothing” it’s a really trippy movie that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

The next movie I rented is Run Lola Run. I’ve never actually seen this 90’s movie but I have heard nothing but good things about it and I figured when in Berlin do as the Berliners do! Run Lola Run is the story of a girl who must get a large amount of money in 30 minutes or her boyfriend will be shot. The movie is broken into three different scenarios in which Lola must run (surprise) to procure this money.

The third movie that I rented is an old Christoph Waltz film that I have no idea what the plot is. The kind gentleman who ran the video store recommended it and told me that this is one of the few of his films that has English subtitles. This will be a fun adventure!
