Visiting San Francisco can be overwhelming. There is so much to do and see. Not to mention, it is home to some incredible food.

San Francisco has always been known for great food. Back in the Gold Rush day, prospectors would spend their hard earned money on a special omelet made with oysters and bacon.

I ran across a great food guide for first time visitors to the city by the bay. Of course any seafood is to die for from Fisherman’s Wharf, but there are also some killer restaurants you cannot miss.

Contigo offers seasonal variation of squid dishes. Its menu is full of a mixture of California and Spanish dishes. They also have an extensive Spanish wine menu. You can enjoy a glass of wine at the beautiful wine bar that is if you can find a seat. The restaurant is known to always be packed, so plan ahead!

Award-winning bakery, Tartine Bakery, offers delicious coffee and tasty bread. A must try dish at Tartine Bakery is the huge spicy turkey sandwich. It is full of peppered turkey, provolone, and broccoli pesto. It is so large; it is usually cut into three different servings. Actually, all of the hot-pressed sandwiches are amazing and all are served with pickled carrots.

Head to The Mill on Monday nights for some vegetarian pizza made with the perfect ingredients. At The Mill, of course, they mill their own grain. So the pizza has a one of a kind taste. Toppings include beets, leek and potato. You can score a huge slice for only $3 dollars!

If you are looking for a great place to grab dessert, head to Bi-Rite Creamery. The ice-cream shop is so popular; it has over 283,000 followers on Twitter. They don’t just offer ice cream, the menu also offers popsicles. Their very own specialty sundae, The Dainty Gentlemen, is composed of lavender ice cream, hot fudge, Maldon sea salt and blood orange olive oil.
