If you are leaving for an international trip soon, you might not know that there are a lot more t’s to cross and i’s to dot than you think!
1. Travel insurance. Some of the more unfortunate things happen when we least expect it. Remember Alanis Morissette singing about it raining on her wedding day? Even if you’re going on a spa getaway, you should always have annual travel insurance.
2. Check the safety, and alert the embassy. You can check the safety status of the country you are visiting through your embassy, things that might deter you from going might be frequent terrorism, widespread illness, war, and other extreme conditions. While there likely won’t be a ban on travel, they may advice you to stay out of certain places, and err on the side of caution.
3. Make sure that you can keep your money, passport, cell phone, and other valuables safe. You may want to invest in a wallet you can wear underneath your clothes or ask about a safe where you are staying.
4. Get copies of your passport to carry around with you. If something happens to your personal items, you won’t want to be stuck with no passport. Some places, like nightclubs may ask to see ID, and this can suffice in some cases as well.
5. Call your bank and make sure they know you’ll be out of the country, so they don’t freeze your funds. It is also a great idea to get cash in a different currency (if needed) before the trip, many people also get their currency at the airport when they land.
