After having a few too many with my Aunt in Miami, I nearly missed my flight to Madrid. Now, that would have been a great first impression for my host family. “Hi, there I’m Andrew, sorry I’m 12 hours late but I drank too much before I got here. Where’s my room?” Thankfully, the 8 hour flight allowed me to sleep off my hangover and arrive in Spain peachy keen.
I just arrived at Madrid-Barajas airport. I’m not sure when or where I am going to find a suitable place to access the internet, so I figured I would write a quick post at this McDonald’s before I meet with my host family.
The plan is to explore the city all of today before meeting with the director of the ESL Program I will be participating in. She’s a woman who grew up in the States but has lived in Spain for several years. I’m sure she will be a great resource for me in the coming months as I have entered Spain completely blind. I usually know at least one or two acquaintances when I travel but this time it is much different. I am not too worried about the challenge however, I have always been good at making friends in the strangest places.
Aside from getting down to business, my friend from the States told me about an awesome restaurant near the school I am teaching at called Jurucha, which serves some cheap tapas. I will definitely need to do something a bit more upscale during my time here, but I’m sure some cheap, greasy tapas will do for now.
Also, I seem to be in high demand as Julie has already set me up with a tutoring session on Monday. Let’s hope this journey is just as good at the last!
