Every year, trains across the country celebrate the holidays by transforming train rides into a magical adventure. The idea really became popular after the movie The Polar Express was released in 2004. All over the nation, families can experience the North Pole and kids can see Santa to tell them what they want. This Christmas, make sure to hitch a ride on one of the holiday train rides!

Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad/West Virginia Central Railroad in West Virginia
The Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad in West Virginia hosts the official Polar Express every year through November and December. The train picks up excited guests at the depot in western Maryland and takes them on an hour-long trip to the beautiful and snowy North Pole. The weather is usually chilly with lots of snow around so it really puts everyone in the spirit. Many passengers come in their pajamas and eat goodies and drink hot cocoa while riding on the train. Guests enjoy music from the movie Polar Express and each child receives a silver sleigh bell to take home along with a souvenir mug.

Grand Canyon Railway in Arizona: The Polar Express
Every year, The Grand Canyon Railway also hosts the official Polar Express. It opens in early November and usually runs until the beginning of January. The train ride is about an hour and takes guests through the beautiful forests of Williams, Arizona and stops at the North Pole. This is where kids can see Santa Claus and all of his reindeer. Plus there will be plenty of cookies and hot chocolate along with endless Christmas stories and music. The ride takes place in the afternoon and evening and is really a great time in the heart of Arizona.

Huckleberry Railroad in Michigan
It isn’t quite the Polar Express, but The Huckleberry Railroad in Michigan really knows how to celebrate the holiday season. There are always villagers dressed in costumes and homes and shops decorated in full on holiday cheer. The Colwell Opera House near by also offers great entertainment and a spot where children can see Santa Claus. The village is covered in sparkling lights and is always playing holiday music. The railroad even offers a nighttime train ride to get a great view of all of the bright holiday festivities.
