The house-made buns are toasted and covered in butter and beef fat. The burger comes with not just one, but THREE slices of American cheese, bread-and-butter pickles, white onions, lettuce, fresh tomatoes (when in season) and a special sauce that is similar to Thousand Island. Au Cheval in Chicago
Choose from either two patties or three at Au Cheval in Chicago. The ground beef is cooked on a griddle and served with Cheddar cheese, thin pickles and Dijonnaise on a toasted bun from one of the best bakeries in Chicago, Z Baking. The patties are cooked well done so they are crusty and the fries that come with it are super delicious, probably because they are fried in lard.
Le Pigeon in Portland
Le Pigeon first opened in Portland in 2006 and each night they only made five of their cheeseburgers. But now they are being served left and right because they are that outstanding. The cheeseburger is made of a thick square patty from a local farm and seasoned with pepper and salt. It is then topped with Tillamook white Cheddar cheese, iceberg lettuce slaw, grilled pickled onions, mustard, ketchup (homemade) and mayo on a ciabatta bun.
