People ask me all the time: How do I fly for free? Well, I hate to break it to you, but nothing’s free in this world–somewhere, someone is paying for those celebrity flights! I can, however, provide some tips on smart traveling! Below are my top 5 ways to save money on flights:
1. Buy your tickets on a Tuesday or Wednesday, these two days often have the cheaper tickets than if you decide to buy on a Monday or Friday.
2. Don’t discount smaller airlines. You know what to expect from a British Airways flight already, but smaller airlines bring a little anxiety for some people who think they’ll be stuck in a rickety old crop duster. That’s simply not the case, there are many smaller airlines that are less expensive, and still enjoyable on long voyages. Thomas Cook flights is a great smaller airline that provides international flights to the US and pretty much all over the world. Check out your local airports to see what options you have when flying abroad next time.
3. Going to the airlines’ actual sites can be just as good as looking on discount sites like Orbitz, if you sign up for their newsletters, they often include alerts about under booked flights and upcoming specials, which can save you some dough.
4. Frequent flier credit cards. You’re already spending money, why don’t you just put it towards something substantial, like that dream vacation in the tropics.
5. Be flexible. If you have the opportunity to post-pone your flight a day extra or so, it could mean that you get your ticket at a further discounted rate! The best times you would want to fly out (Fridays, Sunday nights) are usually the most expensive…Why not try Wednesday?
