A Milwaukee man has been playing a joke on flyers for over 40 years now. The photographer, Mark Gubin, has had the words, “Welcome to Cleveland” painted on his roof for four decades. And it really freaks people who fly over his house out!
Grubin’s home is directly below a flight path near the airport in Milwaukee. He came up with the idea over 40 years ago, strictly to mess with people. He thought it would be funny to trick the people in the planes flying over his home.
How would you feel if you thought you were landing in Milwaukee and read a sign that says welcome to Cleveland? I find this hilarious and shocked that I haven’t heard about this sooner. I would like to be on a plane that flies over his home to see if the flight attendants or pilots warn people about this. I also would like to know how many people have said something to the flight crew about this. I can just imagine how many people get confused when they see this!
Grubin has said there is no purpose for the sign on his roof except to play a joke on the people flying over it. I am sure many of the pilots who are used to flying this path know, but their first time flying it may have freaked them out a bit.
This is also makes me wonder if there is anyone else who does this across the country. I know there are a lot of houses under flight paths and it would be really funny if there were more pranks like this. If you know of any others, let me know!
