The world’s largest beer festival kicked off on September 19th in Munich, Germany and the event not only offers tasty beer, but food too. The 16-day event draws in over 6 million people from all around the world. This year, Oktoberfest is celebrating its 182nd anniversary.

The only beer allowed at the festival are beers that are brewed within the city limits of Munich. The following beers are the only ones that meet this criterion: Augustiner-Brau, Hacker-Pschorr-Brau, Lowenbrau, Paulaner, Spatenbrau and Staatliches Hofbrau-Munchen. Around 6.7 million liters of beer are consumed every Oktoberfest. Bartenders have been known to fill a liter of beer in just 1.5 seconds.

Oktoberfest serves a wide variety of traditional German food. All of the dishes pair perfectly with the delicious beer. Some of the most common German food served is sausages (Würstl), white sausage (Weisswurst) pretzels (Brezens), Sauerkraut and potato pancakes (Reiberdatschi).

The festival also offers a attractions like games, rides and parades. So visitors can also find common fair food like turkey legs, funnel cakes and more. There is always a lot of options when it comes to food at Oktoberfest because of all the different vendors and traditions.

Place across the world hold their own Oktoberfest and they all do a pretty good job giving people a taste of the festival in Germany. But nothing beats the actually Oktoberfest in Munich. The beer is fantastic, the people are fun, the food is tasty and the atmosphere is energetic.
