Four Peaks Brewery in Tempe, Arizona has been a staple for the students at Arizona State University serving up some tasty grub and even tastier beer. The brewery is located on 8th street where the beer is brewed and served right in the restaurant. The brewery has a wide variety of beer from the tamer 8th Street Ale and Kilt Lifter to the cult favorites like the autumn seasonal Pumpkin Porter.
Four Peaks Brewery has won multiple awards at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, Colorado. The many accolades include Scottich Style Ale, American-Style Strong Ale, and English-Style Bitter. Here is a list of some of the best items, beer and food, to order if you are ever visiting Tempe, Arizona.
Kilt Lifter
Four Peaks flagship brew, Kiltlifter is caramel-brown Scottish-style ale with a malty sweet flavor. The brew clocks in at 6.0% alcohol content and can be found in retail stores throughout the southwest. The beer goes well with barbecue and smoked meats. This definitely the most standard “beer” you can find at Four Peaks Brewery.
Pumpkin Porter
This beer is only available in the fall but the entire town goes crazy for it when it is around. When I was visiting Phoenix for an ex-girlfriend’s Thanksgiving this was on tap at literally every bar with a decent beer selection. I’m not usually a porter guy and I can really only drink one of these at a time but they really nail the pumpkin spice/hops mixture so it doesn’t taste like you are drinking a pie. They also use the brew to make a pumpkin flavored milkshake but I’ll never risk that calorie bomb
Raj IPA
In 2011 and 2012 I was on a huge IPA kick and one of my favorites is the RAJ from Four Peaks Brewery. The Raj is an IPA in every sense of the word it is bitter, hoppy, and earthy in flavor. Like the majority of Four Peak’s brews Raj is easy to go down and has a sweet after taste. This is my favorite brew from Four Peaks Brewery.
Arizona Peach
The lightest beer in taste at Four Peaks the Arizona Peach is not really my cup of tea but my friends who enjoy a soft light beers like a Hefeweizen can not stop raving about this beer. The flavor is very peachy and I actually like to mix it with their Oatmeal Stout to create fun little peach oatmeal flavor.
Food Menu Favorites
Four Peaks has great beer but they also have some of the best food that I have ever sampled at a brewery. They have all of your standard pub food but it is prepared very well everything from the appetizers to the desserts. Here are some pics of my favorites.
Bavarian Pretzels
Mushroom Swiss Burger
