Hot-Air Balloons Take Over Albuquerque

The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta kicked off this week in New Mexico and will in full swing until October 11th. This is one of the world’s largest balloon festivals with over 700 balloons. It is also one of the most photographed events.

The first thing you should do every morning before heading to the event is to check the weather. Weather conditions have to be ideal for the balloons to launch so it is best to check the weather ahead of time just in case there are any cancellations. It does get a little chilly in Albuquerque this time of year, so make sure to dress accordingly and try to head to the festival early so you can beat all of the traffic.

Usually by 10 a.m., most of the balloons are in the air. This is a great time to wander around and explore all of the festivities. There are a ton of merchants around the festival grounds and plenty of concessions to grab some food, including the festival’s famous breakfast burritos. You can also munch on some turkey legs, hot dogs, pizza and barbeque. There is also The Balloon Discovery Center where you can learn all about the balloons. If you are looking for some more information on the balloons, you can always head to The Anderson Abruzzo International Balloon Museum.

Once it gets dark is when the Balloon Glow takes place and this might be one of the most spectacular events. It usually starts around 6 p.m. At the Balloon Glow, you will see hundreds of inflated balloons that all light their burners at the same time. It really is a sight to see. The entire festival grounds will be covered with gorgeous glowing balloons for all to see.

After the Balloon Glow make sure to stick around for the fireworks show. These fireworks are some of the best you will see and it is the perfect day to end a long day at the extraordinary Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.
