We know all too well how bad airplane food can be–regarding both nutrition and taste. The people at dietdetective.com took this common knowledge and put some research behind it in a recent study that sought to find out which airlines had the healthiest food onboard.
Virgin America proved to have the healthiest food options in the air. This does not come as a surprise considering they’ve spent a lot of effort lately into revamping their food options so their menu is healthier, fresher, and full of higher-quality meals.
The airlines Delta and JetBlue tied for second healthiest food options in the sky. Their food options ranged from 330 calories to 520 calories on average. Not too bad for flight food.
In last place, Frontier airlines was found to have the most unhealthy food options. Around last place sat Alaska Airlines and Spirit.
Kudos to Virgin America, Delta, and JetBlue for paying attention to their passengers health. We know it’s not easy to make airplane food taste good, as your tastebuds are 30% less sensitive while flying. Combine that with trying to make highly-seasoned foods healthy, it’s no easy feat.
We hope to see Frontier, Alaska Airlines and Spirit partner with world-renowned chefs and nutritionists so they can refine their menu options to be a little more health friendly.
